The Eternal Thread

The first time he saw her, the world smelled of burnt cinnamon and rain-soaked roses. She stood at the edge of the City of Shadows, her deep crimson cloak swaying in the wind, her silver-threaded dress shimmering under the moonlight. He didn’t know her name, but his soul ached as if he had called it a thousand times before.

“You’re late,” she murmured, her voice carrying that unmistakable lilt of mischief.

He stepped closer. “Late for what?”

She gave him a knowing smile. “For our forever.”

But forever had never been kind to them.

Sometimes, they were torn apart by war. Sometimes, by curses. Other times, by their own foolishness. Yet, lifetime after lifetime, they found their way back.

A poet’s ink-stained hands brushing against her cheek in the candlelight.

A pirate king catching her wrist before she disappeared into the sea mist.

A ghost whispering her name through the halls of a forgotten castle.

Each time, the world changed. But the way they looked at each other never did.

This time—this lifetime—would be different.

She stood beneath the gemstone arch of the Eclipsora Gardens, where the air shimmered with enchantment, where lovers carved their names into moonstone trees, where wishes turned into whispers that never faded.

And he was there. Not as a warrior, or a poet, or a ghost. Just him. Just hers.

She exhaled, a century’s worth of longing in her breath. “You found me.”

He took her hands, his thumb tracing the same invisible mark on her palm that had always been there, in every life.

“I always do.”

And this time, the thread would not break.

Not in this lifetime.

Not ever.
